Qu'est-ce que la Business Intelligence ?


Bonjour à tous,
Il a quelques semaines je discutais en ligne avec l'un de mes contacts et cette personne a évoqué la possibilité de faire une série d'articles pour introduire la BI.
J'ai donc décidé de présenter la BI en rédigeant 04 articles. Voici le premier de cette série, intitulé "Qu'est ce que la Business Intelligence ?"

Introduction

De nos jours, la "Business Intelligence" est devenue un outil incontournable pour diriger et orienter toutes les "unités d'affaires" d’une entreprise (approvisionnement, production, ventes, finances, organisation, …) mais au fait, qu'est-ce que la Business Intelligence ?


Premières utilisations du terme "Business Intelligence"

En 1865, "Richard Millar Devens" présenta l'expression “Business Intelligence” dans "The Cyclopædia of Commercial and Business Anecdotes". Il l'utilisait pour décrire comment "Sir Henry Furnese", un banquier, a profité de la récolte d'information afin d'agir avant sa concurrence. [1]


Evolution de la définition de la BI


C’est en 1958, dans l’article "A Business Intelligence System" [11], que l’informaticien allemand et chercheur d'IBM "Hans Peter Luhn" théorise le terme. Il le décrit en tant que “système automatique en cours d’élaboration pour diffuser l’information dans les diverses sections de tout organisme industriel, scientifique ou gouvernemental." [2].
Cette notion regroupe les solutions IT qui permettent d’exploiter les données d’une entreprise (comptabilité, finances, base clients…) afin d’établir des rapports d’analyse servant à la gouvernance et à la prise de décision. [3]

C’est ensuite en 1989 que le consultant "Horward Dresner" (qui deviendra ensuite un analyste du Groupe Gartner) reprend le terme pour lui conférer le sens actuel : “des concepts et des méthodes pour améliorer la prise de décisions d’affaires en utilisant des systèmes de soutien basés sur les faits.”. [2]

Définition proposée par Forrester Research

Selon Forrester Research, l'intelligence d'affaires est “un ensemble de méthodologies, de processus, d'architectures et de technologies qui transforment des données brutes en informations significatives et utiles, utilisées pour permettre une analyse et une prise de décision stratégiques, tactiques et opérationnelles plus efficaces". [9]


Définition proposée par le CIGREF (Association de grandes entreprises et administrations publiques françaises)

La Business Intelligence se définit par l'ensemble des moyens, outils et méthodes qui supportent le processus de collecte, consolidation, modélisation, analyse et restitution des informations. [4]


Définition proposée sur le site guidescomparatifs.com

La Business Intelligence englobe l’ensemble des méthodes et outils permettant d’offrir aux collaborateurs, dirigeants et parties prenantes des organisations, une vision complète, cohérente et compréhensible de l’ensemble du patrimoine informationnel de l’organisation, à des fins de statistiques, d’analyse, de contrôle ou de pilotage. [5]


Définition proposée sur le MagIT par Margaret Rouse

L'informatique décisionnelle – ou BI (Business Intelligence) – est un processus technologique qui analyse des données pour présenter des informations exploitables par les dirigeants, les cadres commerciaux et les autres utilisateurs, afin de leur permettre de prendre des décisions plus avisées.
L'informatique décisionnelle englobe les différents outils, applications et méthodologies qui permettent à l'entreprise de collecter des données à partir de systèmes internes et de sources externes, de les préparer en vue d'une analyse, de développer des requêtes et de les appliquer à ces données.
On en tire alors diverses vues, ou modes de visualisation, tels que des rapports et des tableaux de bord, pour mettre les résultats analytiques à la disposition des décideurs et des acteurs de l'entreprise. [6]

L'intelligence d'affaire c'est l'ensemble des processus et des technologies qui permettent à la direction et aux cadres d'une entreprise de prendre des décisions plus éclairées. [7]


Définition proposée par Jihane Guerida

La Business Intelligence (BI), également dite "intelligence d’affaires" ou "informatique décisionnelle”, englobe les solutions IT apportant une aide à la prise de décision en fournissant aux décideurs la bonne information au bon moment avec comme livrables, en bout de chaîne, des rapports, des tableaux de bord et des statistiques.
C’est un processus technologique qui analyse et traite les données afin d’aboutir à des informations exploitables qui accélèrent le gain d’avantage concurrentiel et améliorent l’efficacité opérationnelle, répondent plus rapidement aux changements, augmentent la rentabilité et augmentent d’une façon générale la valeur ajoutée de l’entreprise. [8]


Définition proposée par Keth D. Foole

La Business Intelligence (intelligence d'affaires ou l'informatique décisionnelle), comme on l'entend aujourd'hui, utilise la technologie pour rassembler et analyser les données, les traduire en informations utiles et agir "avant la concurrence".
Essentiellement, la version moderne de la BI se concentre sur la technologie pour prendre des décisions rapidement et efficacement, en se basant sur la bonne information au bon moment. [1]


Définition proposée par le Groupe Gartner

Le groupe Gartner définit l’intelligence d’affaires en tant que : "terme générique qui englobe les applications, l’infrastructure et les outils, ainsi que les pratiques exemplaires qui permettent d’accéder à l’information et l’analyser afin d’améliorer et optimiser les décisions et le rendement." [10]


En résumé

La Business Intelligence (BI), appelée en français "Intelligence d’affaires" et de moins en moins souvent "Informatique décisionnelle", est un outil d'aide à la prise de décision et au pilotage de l'entreprise. Elle représente l'ensemble des méthodologies, des processus, des technologies et des outils qui rassemblent et transforment les données brutes en informations significatives et utiles afin d'offrir une vision complète, cohérente et compréhensible de l’ensemble du patrimoine informationnel d'une organisation pour permettre une prise de décision adéquate.
Son objectif, fournir, à l'équipe managériale (décideurs et acteur de l'entreprise), la bonne information au bon moment pour prendre la décision la plus rapide, la plus appropriée et la plus efficace possible.

DAX : Comment saisir le nom d'une table dans une mesure


Normalement, si vous avez besoin de faire référence à une table de votre modèle dans une mesure DAX, il suffit de saisir les premiers caractères de celles-ci et l'IntelliSense fait le reste et vous propose le nom de la table puis la liste des colonnes précédées du nom de la table. Il ne vous restera plus qu'à cliquer sur le nom de la table ou de la colonne appropriée.

Toutefois, si le nom de votre table contient un caractère accentué ou un espace, DAX met systématiquement le nom de la table entre apostrophes, il vous faudra donc dérouler la liste jusqu'à arriver aux valeurs qui commence par une apostrophe (')
Donc pour saisir le nom d'une table surtout si celle-ci contient une espace ou un caractère accentué, commencez votre saisie par une apostrophe ainsi l'IntelliSense filtrera la liste pour ne garder que la liste des tables et de leurs champs.

Remarque importante :

Je vous aurez bien conseillé de systématiquement commencer la saisie du nom de vos tables par une apostrophe car l'IntelliSense renvoie aussi les tables qui ne contiennent ni espaces ni caractères accentués mais Marco Russo (SQLBI.com) recommande justement, dans un article intitulé "Rules for DAX Code Formatting", de ne pas mettre d'apostrophes pour les tables qui ne nécessitent pas cela.

Exam and Certification Retirement Roundup, December 2018

Liberty Munson announced yesturday (19/12/18) the retirement of 33 certifications exams and 09 Certifications for the next 06 months.

Liberty stated that the exam retirements reflect the program’s evolution to embrace role-based certifications She also added that retired certifications will stay on the Transcript of MCP who earned them and would be shared as usual.

Afficher la date au lieu de la hiérarchie de date - Power BI


Par défaut, lorsque vous importez des données de type "Date", Power BI crée automatiquement une hiérarchie pour ces champs et si vous ajoutez le champ à un visuel tel qu'une table ou une matrice, c'est toute la hiérarchie qui s'affiche.

Si vous souhaitez afficher, uniquement, la valeur de la date sans les éléments de la hiérarchie dans le visuel, procéder comme suit :
  1. Ajouter le champ de type date au visuel, c'est tous les champs de la hiérarchie qui sont ajoutés.
  2. Activez le volet "Champs" du visuel
  3. Dans la section "Valeurs", Déroulez la liste des options du champ
  4. Pochez (activez) la propriété "Dates"
et voici le résultat final. Vous constaterez que seul le champ date est coché dans les différents volets de champs.

Power BI Desktop December 2018 Updates


La mise à jour Power BI Desktop de ce mois de décembre 2018 a débarqué hier avec son lot de nouveautés et d'améliorations (15 mises à jour en tout).

Mon TOP 5

Les 05 fonctionnalités et améliorations que j'ai le plus appréciées sont :
  • Les Smart Guides (ou guides visuels intelligents) qui facilite grandement l'alignement des objets sur une page. (lire Smart Guides)
  • L'option Find locations with similar attributes du visuel ArcGIS Map qui permet de retrouver toutes les emplacements similaire à un (ou plusieurs) emplacement(s) puis de filter le rapport (donc tous les éléments présent sur la feuille) en fonction du résultat de la recherche. (lire ArcGIS updates)
  • La possibilité de naviguer au clavier dans le volet "Liste des champs" ainsi que la fourniture de 07 raccourcis clavier. (Fields List Pane Accessibility)
  • La possibilité de paramétrer un Tooltips (info bulle) pour les boutons visuels. (lire Tooltips)
  • La possibilité de faire un Zoom in/Zoom Out dans la barre de formule DAX ainsi que l'expansion de celle-ci à presque la totalité de la fenêtre Power BI Desktop et non plus uniquement 11 lignes. (lire DAX formula bar updates)

Le retour de Chris Webb sur les résultats de l'enquête BI 2018


Hier, Christopher Webb, Consultant indépendant spécialisé sur Analysis Services, MDX, Power BI, et bien d'autres outils, Bloggeur, Auteur et Speaker, a publié sur son blog "Chris Webb's BI Blog" un article dans lequel il reprend les grandes lignes du résultat de l'enquête 2018 en rapport avec la BI et ses outils.

Pour résumer son résumé :) voici les points marquants de cette enquête :
  • Le TOP 5 des outils BI les plus populaires sont (et dans cet ordre) Power BI, Excel, Qlikview, Tableau and SSRS (3/5 des outils sont des produits Microsoft)
  • Power BI dispose du meilleur rapport prix/valeur tous outils confondus.
  • Power BI est le client #2 utiliser avec SSAS (après SSRS) et il semble même qu'il a devancé Excel.
  • Même si Power BI obtient un très bon score, il n'existe pas de leader clair.

Bonjour à tous,

Ce billet à pour objectif de faire la promotion d'un nouveau blog, de la communauté Excel et BI en Algérie, qui vient de voir le jour. Ce blog qui porte le nom de "Excel and BI" devrait aborder des sujets en rapport avec Excel et la BI bien sûr.
